Blender is free software that allows users to create and modify 3D objects. Most users import these creations (.obj files) into Unity or UnReal Engine platforms for Virtual Reality experiences.
There are many challenges that come with learning a new program, especially one that isn't taught in school. My experience with Blender has been bittersweet. There is a steep learning curve. At first glance, Blender can overwhelm you. With the number of controls and lack of directions, you can see how this program was not designed for beginners. I have spent the last month learning what all the basic tools do and where to find them. After becoming frustrated with the layout, I caved in and bought 4 UDEMY courses (only $40 with the COVID discounts). Best purchase ever!
So what have I been working on?
I'm doing my best to recreate Le salon de l'Abondance a château de Versailles. With the help of my mentors, they outlined and scheduled deadlines for me to stay on track. We discussed two things to work on through June.
1) This cabinet, due by end of May:

2) The Room, due by the end of June:

While working on these Blender objects and space, I'm going to document the process. Learning this program has been mentally taxing - it's not as easy as I imagined. 🥵 I've spent numerous hours watching Udemy tutorials. After going through the videos, I've tried to build an object (as #1), but have had to return to the videos and play the videos at 1/2 time to follow along. On top of this, it's hard to focus at home with a 4 year old and husband in the same room. I wonder what the learning process would be like if I was alone in my office on campus...
