An Experience in
Digital Humanities Pedagogy
Barnard College @ Columbia University
- Digital Humanities Center -
Digital Media Design for Learning Internship (Spring 2020)
A record of my learning experiences and documentation of a virtual reality project in the
Digital Humanities Center (DHC) at Barnard College.
Why Barnard?
I chose this internship to learn more about the pedagogical processes of course design in higher education, and how digital technology can be successfully incorporated into the undergraduate syllabus.
"Through research and conversations with staff mentors, ... Sondra will explore recommended practices for teaching with VR, and will be asked to blog and give a presentation at the end of the semester putting her own project in the context of the current trends in VR for higher education." - M. Virtual Reality & Higher Education
Under the guidances of both the Digital Humanities Center Director and Co-Dean of the Library, I will design a virtual reality (VR) experience for a humanities course with a digital technology requirement. This project will act as a vehicle for students to actively engage with an environment, with the intention of students incorporating their own 3D creations into the VR experience. I will also produce a quick-glance guide for faculty and students to operate the HTC Vive VR headset.
Liberal Arts Colleges & Digital Humanities Projects

As a quick-glance guide for the consultants, I will create a shared database of US Liberal Arts institutions with digital humanities centers or labs. This will include the project names, links, collaborators, media types, and my analysis of the project. I will share some of the
